The Wildwood City Fire Department responded to 111 East Davis Avenue for a reported dwelling fire at 11:04 PM (May 17, 2015). The fire was reported by a subject who walked into the police department. Engine Company 38, under the command of Captain Ernie Troiano III quickly arrived at the two story, two family dwelling which is across the street from Fire Headquarters and found heavy fire showing from Division 2 on the B side. Engine Co. 38 along with North Wildwood FD Engine Company 2 arrived and began searching the building and extinguishing the fire. Heavy fire conditions were throughout the second floor. The second floor unit was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The first floor unit was occupied. The occupants self-evacuated prior to the Fire Departments arrival. Fire units operated on scene for about two and a half hours. There were no reported injuries. Additional fire units on scene were West Wildwood FD, Wildwood Crest FD and Rio Grande FD. Wildwood Crest FD and Wildwood FD Tower 51 responded to an additional 5 fire calls during this incident. All due to the heavy smoke condition which traveled throughout the city. The fire remains under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal's Office and the City of Wildwood Fire Department. Damage is estimated at $60,000. Fire damage was throughout the second floor along with smoke and water damage to the first floor. |
