On Thursday February 12th shortly after 11:00 p.m. the Avalon Fire Dept. was dispatched to a reported fire in the 4700 block of 5th Ave. Dispatch was advising of numerous calls and the possibility of multiple structures involved. The weather conditions at the time were very harsh with winds of 25-35 mph and wind chills in the single digits at best. F-1100 Chief Dean arrived on scene and reported a large, 3 story structure under construction fully involved with extension to two exposures and requested a second alarm. Engine Company 37 was dispatched on the third alarm at around 11:30 p.m. Engine 37 staffed by 6 members along with F-301 Deputy Chief Speigel responded. Engine 37 assisted with establishing an additional water supply. Members then assisted with various fireground duties for several hours. Wildwood City FD units returned to the City around 5:30 a.m. on Friday morning. |
