Engine 38 Handles Afternoon Dwelling Fire (A Platoon) |
On Thursday May 9, 2013 shortly after 14:00 hours Engine 38 was dispatched to the area of Pine Ave. and Lake Rd. for a reported dwelling fire. The box alarm assignment was filled for off-duty career members as well as Station 3-1 and 3-2. NWFD Engine 2 was second due on the box. Upon arrival members found smoke showing from a 1-1/2 story wood framed private dwelling. Engine 38 secured a water supply and stretched an 1-3/4" attack line to the front door. Members encountered hoarding type conditions inside the front door that hindered the advance. Heavy fire began venting from Side A and the A/B corner. Members were withdrawn by Command. A quick exterior knockdown was made and members were able to push into the dwelling to extinguish the fire. Command had a City Public Works 30 yd. dumpster brought to the scene so members conducting overhaul could empty some of the contents of the dwelling to complete final extinguishment . Extensive overhaul was required due to the interior conditions. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Wildwood City Fire Official and the Cape May County Fire Marshal's Office. Units operated on the scene for about 3 hours before taking up. There were no reported injuries as a result of the fire. |
