On April 16, 2012 at 14:34 Engine 38 (C Platoon) was dispatched to 121 W. Poplar Ave. for a reported grease fire in the kitchen area.  While enroute WPD officers arrived and reported smoke showing.  Upon the arrival of Engine 38, members found heavy smoke showing from the first floor of a 4-story wood frame occupied multiple dwelling.  Engine 2 (NWFD) and the box alarm were requested.  Engine 38 quickly stretched on the dwelling while a water supply was established.  Members found heavy fire conditions in the kitchen area of the first floor unit.  They were able to put a quick knock on the fire.  Searches were negative.  Box alarm companies were assigned to overhaul and assisted with picking up Engine 38's lines.  There were no injuries reported.  The CMC Fire Marshal investigated the fire and determined the cause to be accidental.  The fire started when cooking grease came into contact with the stove in the apartment.  The Red Cross was on scene to assist the displaced occupants of the building.
