First Due Dwelling Fire at shift change; Oak and Hudson Aves. |
Shortly before 18:00 hours on Thursday December 6, 2012 911 calls began pouring in reporting a house fire in the area of Oak and Hudson Ave. Some of the initial calls came in to the North Wildwood Police Dept. Dispatch transmitted the Box Alarm assignment for all Wildwood companies and Engine 2 (NWFD). D and C platoons were in the middle of shift change as the box came in allowing Engine 38 to initially respond with 5 members under the command of Capt. Speigel . Upon arrival Capt. Speigel reported a 1 story wood frame private dwelling with smoke showing. Chief D'Amico (F-300) arrived and assumed command of the incident. A water supply was established as an 1-3/4" line was stretched to the front door of the dwelling. Heavy fire was venting from the C side of the dwelling at this time. Engine 38's crew stretched in and found heavy fire in the utility room of the house with extension into the attic space and adjoining rooms. Engine 38 put a knock on the fire. Primary and secondary searches were negative. Engine 2's crew was assigned to the roof for vertical ventilation. Additional arriving box alarm companies were assigned to various fireground duties including utility control and overhaul. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cape May County Fire Marshal's Office. Companies operated on the scene for about 2 hours before taking up. |
