On Monday January 9th just before 11:00 am, Engine 38 (B Platoon) was operating on a medical incident in the area of the George Redding Bridge.  While operating members noticed a large smoke plume start to rise from the West Wildwood area.  They radioed dispatch who advised that there was reported structure fire in the area of 26th Ave.  Engine 38 cleared and began their response.  The Box alarm assignment was filled out at this time for off-duty career and volunteer firefighters to respond.  FO-1 Capt. Grauel arrived on scene and reported a 2 story wood frame commerical building (B & E Marine) with the second floor heavily involved.  Engine 38 arrived and began stretching lines.  NWFD Engine 2 quickly arrived after Engine 38.  Units set up defensive operations as fire took possession of the majority of the building.  Immediate placement of protective hoselines prevented extension to numerous boats that were being stored in close proximity to the building.  West Wildwood Fire Chief Bill Cripps (F-2100) arrived and assumed command of the fire.  Companies operated on the scene for several hours.  The last Wildwood units cleared around 15:30 with West Wildwood units clearing around 18:30 hours.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Other units operating at this fire included North Wildwood Fire Dept, Wildwood Crest Fire Dept, Rio Grande Fire Co., and Rio Grande Rescue.  The NJ State  Police, U.S. Coast Guard, and Sea Two along with the Stone Harbor Fire Dept. Marine Unit responded to control the runoff from the fire that was going into the intercoastal waterway.
