WILDWOOD - Officials are investigating a fire that broke out Monday evening at a motel that had been shut down for the winter. The Skylark Motel at Spencer and Atlantic avenues was not destroyed, but a few units were badly damaged, according to Wildwood Fire Capt. Mike Neill. Neill was not able to immediately provide the time of the 911 call reporting the blaze. Firefighters brought it under control by about 10:15 p.m. No injuries were reported, he said.

The heat of the flames warped siding on a duplex next door, Neill said. The Cape May County Fire Marshal and the Prosecutor's Offices, along with Wildwood Police and Fire Departments, are investigating, Neill said. The multi-agency probe is standard because the two-story structure suffered extensive damage, he said.

North Wildwood firefighters assisted at the scene and Rio Grande covered the Wildwood station during the incident, Neill said.
